Colorado Pharmacy Technician Certification Update – August 2020

In early June 2019, Colorado Governor Jared Polis signed Bill HB 19-1242 – Regulate Pharmacy Technicians. Originally, this law required certification by March 30, 2020, but the law was temporarily suspended due to Covid-19.

Under Emergency Rule 30: Temporary Suspension of State Board of Pharmacy Rules Related to Covid-19, the suspension ends August 28, 2019, meaning that all pharmacy technicians must obtain a State Board of Pharmacy certification in order to practice on or after August 29, 2020.

Pharmacy technician applications can be found here. Note there is a $57 fee for a pharmacy technician certification or provisional certification.

Additional information can be found on the pharmacy technician webpage.
