Illinois Board of Pharmacy’s New Licensure Requirement for Non-Resident Pharmacies in 2026

Currently, Illinois only requires non-resident pharmacies (out-of-state pharmacies), that dispense medications to Illinois residents to hold a non-resident pharmacy license.

However, starting January 1, 2026, the Illinois Board of Pharmacy will require non-resident pharmacies who are licensed or seeking an Illinois license to have a pharmacist-in-charge (PIC) who is licensed in Illinois.

All licensed Illinois non-resident pharmacies that dispense medications into Illinois are encouraged to proactively have a PIC timely complete a Illinois Pharmacist Application for Licensure prior to the January 1, 2026, deadline to ensure their pharmacy is compliance with the new Illinois Board Rule.
